Ilaria

Ilaria Campisi Farm

Ilaria's story is authentic, strong and passionate, just like her.
The central aspect of her story is what she grows: the Biondo Oranges of Caulonia, a rare variety of citrus fruit that many years ago was cultivated by her great-uncle in Calabria. From that moment, the stories of her family intertwine and branch out like trees, leaving unchanged and strong traces, in the immense lands of Caulonia.

After studying law, Ilaria took a decision motivated by the deep and intense bond for her family fields. She chose to dedicate herself to agriculture, and especially to cultivate those lands that for years she has seen flourishing under the southern italian sun. And she chose to do so for love, and that's why she decided not to cut off the first trees planted by her great-uncle so many years before, but to instead take care and to continue cultivating them.

Despite the years and the uncertain results, Ilaria has been capable of giving the best of herself and nowadays, her plants of Oranges of Caulonia are among the rarest and most admired varieties of citrus fruit.

Some years later, Ilaria accidentally found an old diary in the attic of her house. It belonged to her great-uncle and she found a list of the date when the first tree was planted: it was not just a random tree, but it was the Biondo di Caulonia Orange tree. It was 1922 and today that tree is almost a century old. By chance or by luck, or perhaps because of the unrepeatable uniqueness that binds destiny to passion, Ilaria chose to believe in that plant and to continue taking care of it. Today, once again, her choice has given its results. This story shows that if you fight for something that you really care, your battles will turn into success and you will achieve your goals thanks to perseverance and determination. Ilaria's story not only deserves to be told, but it must be shared and listened to, and try to convey how biodiversity can be a value for life.
